Workplace morale

| Suggestion | I heard this morning that the most commonly requested things are free coffee and free popcorn. With all the people leaving, I’m sure that there are some under-runs that could cover the cost of popcorn. It may be the small things that make a difference. |
| Assignment | [RPSC Program Director] |
| Response | Yes, I am not surprised that this is a common request. I empathize with it and realize it would be a nice morale boost. However, we are once again faced with severe budget cuts that prevent us from allowing free coffee and free popcorn. |
Productivity

| Suggestion | [RPSC Program Director], studies have shown that a short (cat) nap can be a real productivity boost, esp in the afternoon. What do you think about having a quiet space in the bldg where people could take a rest? I realize this concept may seem off the wall, esp in traditional mgmt circles, but I’m serious about this. You’ve probably seen articles about it. It’s not goofing off. It’s recharging. Would some people abuse it, maybe. But I think that could be managed appropriately. Do other divisions of Raytheon have this? |
| Assignment | [RPSC Program Director] |
| Response | I have read articles about this technique in the work space. However, these kinds of things do not work on a US government contract, due to timekeeping, fraud, waste and abuse issues. Raytheon does not allow it on any other government contract work. Having said that, I have seen employees take a nap in their vehicles during their lunch period, or take a walk, which also is an excellent way to rejunvenate one’s mind and physical self for the rest of the afternoon’s work. |
