Why is working there referred to as being "onboard" McMurdo Station?

I guess no one else has heard McMurdo referenced that way either.  Where did you see that?

I should have said aboard, instead of onboard, as in:

Jello wrestling is not accepted aboard McMurdo Station.

Once the AVDET is safely aboard McMurdo Station

The two kept logs of their experiences aboard the Coast Guard cutter and aboard McMurdo Station

The first reference is from Duffy.  If you read the rest of the transcript, you might find a few more, um, inaccurate statements. 

The next one is just a case of using the wrong word to describe something.  Teachers make mistakes too.

I looked through the first five pages on Google and didn't see the third one, but it looks like a case of sloppy language (aboard the Coast Guard ship is the correct term and then they use it again for McMurdo). 

So, I guess what I'm saying is, if you see "aboard" McMurdo Station it is either sloppiness or ignorance.
