Well, I know that's happened more than once...on my first trip to the ice in 1972 there was a guy on my flight from Davisvlle to ChCh who wasn't PQ'd. This guy was a tech rep from Fort Belvoir coming down to fix the reactor. Well, he never made it to McMurdo (and the reactor never got fixed either).
